30-second TV advert


Magical TV ad increases Christmas ticket sales.

The problem

We once again partnered with Leeds Playhouse, one of the region’s leading producing theatres, to create a magical animated TV advert for their production of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory – The Musical. The ad needed to increase ticket sales and spread the word about their Christmas show. It needed to be Clearcast approved and suitable for all digital formats. We also had the added challenge of beginning the project before full production visuals were finalised.

Our solution

We produced one 30-second ad for TV broadcast across ITV and Sky video-on-demand. This year, we took things a step further, following the enchanting journey of the golden ticket through a 3D rendition of the Playhouse and the wonderful world of Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, with all the magic and sparkle everyone would expect to see. We worked closely with Leeds Playhouse to develop and deliver a concept that builds on the production artwork. This built brand recognition as well as audience excitement for the dazzling musical. We led the film from concept to TV broadcast, including Clearcast approval and delivery through Adstream. So Leeds Playhouse didn’t need to worry about a thing. The advert was broadcast across video-on-demand over a 2-week period. 


A world of pure imagination.

Our TV advert captures the look and tone of the musical. Using the Playhouse’s set visualisations and sketches, we took inspiration from the production’s costumes, props and scenery. And of course the magic of children’s imaginations and dreams of chocolate heaven, capturing the wonder of the Chocolate Factory. With Yorkshire as the setting for the production, we wanted to bring a strong sense of place to the trailer. So our animated journey begins outside the iconic Playhouse building, in a vibrant Wonka version of Leeds.

The results speak for themselves, with Josh Babcock, Head of Marketing saying: “Not only did last year’s advert look amazing, but the support of the Little Motel team was invaluable.
