TV production company, Workerbee, asked us to illustrate the hard-to-visualise information in their docuseries How to Build British. We needed to seamlessly collaborate with Workerbee’s in-house edit team to ensure that the broadcast motion graphics we created aligned with their existing titles. While making sure we hit their tight turnaround time.
How to Build British is an access-all-areas look at how some of the most impressive cars in the world are constructed. For each episode, we designed a floor-plan graphic that clearly showed where in the production process the car was. We delivered the graphics for each episode chronologically to meet Workerbee’s broadcast deadline. This meant we had to be extra-organised with meticulous attention to detail so everything was delivered on spec and on time.
We developed a style for the maps based on architectural blueprints. The maps were based on the real-life factory layouts. Then we adapted them to suit the programme edit and make it easy for the audience to understand. To keep the project running smoothly, we started the project by designing single style-frames for the production team and commissioner to review before we animated and delivered the final graphics.
I love working with the team at Little Motel. They always quickly create simple but elegant graphics and make tweaks as they’re needed.— James Redgate Edit Producer Workerbee
