Our new animation series for the Pyramids of Life team helps explain the team’s vital work, a collaboration between University of East Anglia, University of York, Seafish and Waitrose, that works towards a sustainable future for our oceans.
The three-film series spans the whole fishing community, reflecting on different needs and requirements, from policy-makers and fishermen through to consumers and conservationists. The films are used at conferences, events as well as online, to help communicate the project’s messaging and ways people can support the marine ecosystem.
We threw ourselves into understanding the science and translating the messaging into something we knew would work in animation. Breaking the content up into three sections created digestible chunks that can be viewed alone online, or as one film at conferences and events.
The clear, diagrammatic visuals illustrate the complex scientific content. This includes simplified fish and shellfish designs that were a nod to specific species, while emphasising the important information – for example, size and abundance of fish species.
Working with Little Motel was a great experience. Our project covers complex research that your team spent time understanding. This meant that the animations produced were perfect. I would recommend Little Motel to anyone or any institution looking to deliver effective science communication.Dr Rosalind Bark Associate Professor of the School of Environment Sciences
